Myth or Truth: Digital Design can be done by anyone

Digital design can be learned by anyone.

Let me tell you something crazy. At my old job, there was a graphic designer who couldn’t use Photoshop professionally. gasp Shocking, I know!

Well, I couldn’t use Photoshop either, but I noticed that out of the 10 designs she did, 8 were templates from a popular online design tool. When I confronted her, she admitted to “borrowing” designs.

I told her to come clean to the hiring manager or learn Photoshop ASAP because her tool had limits. She didn’t want to get caught, so she quit the next day.

She’s a perfect example of the myth that anyone can do digital design. Some people can fool others with drag-and-drop software, but they can’t fake real design thinking. Clients are getting smarter, especially those who know good design.

Digital design can be learned

With the right tools, software, and practice, you can create amazing designs that will blow people’s minds. There are even free software options to help you start without spending anything.

If you invest in paid software like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator and take lessons from pros, your designs can reach new heights.

The problem with my ex-colleague was her refusal to move beyond amateur tools. If you want to make money from a skill, you should invest and improve, right?

Digital design is a discipline

Now, about that myth. Just because anyone can do digital design doesn’t mean it’s easy. It takes hard work, practice, and patience to become good at it.

You can’t just grab an app and make a masterpiece instantly. Like any skill, it takes time and effort.

Some skills and knowledge in fields such as colour theory, typography, and composition are useful for digital design. They can make a big difference in the quality of your work.

But don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert to start. There are lots of online resources and tutorials that can teach you the basics and help you get better.

And if you don’t want to spend your time or money on that, on-demand design services like Deer Designer can help with your designs.

Should you hire just “anyone”?

While it’s true that anyone can do digital design, don’t just hire anyone for your design needs. Hiring someone without experience could lead to low-quality designs that will end up disappointing you.

Go for a pro instead. Professional designers have spent years learning and perfecting their skills. They can create designs that are not only beautiful but also effective in achieving your goals.

Compare our designs to those of less experienced designers, and you’ll see what I mean. There’s a huge difference.

Sure, there are always exceptions. Some people without formal education have a natural talent for digital design and can create stunning graphics.

Still, it’s important to carefully evaluate their portfolio and ensure they have the necessary skills and experience for your specific design needs.

Pro or newbie?

In the end, anyone can do digital design, even you. If you had more hours in the day, you’d probably do it yourself. But since that’s not the case, you’re better off focusing on growing your business or doing what you do best.

That’s why I suggest going with a professional on-demand design service. I wouldn’t recommend freelancers because it takes time to find the right one, and you might end up with someone like my “fake designer” ex-colleague.

Ultimately, the choice between a pro and a newbie is yours.

Just remember that professional design teams have the expertise and knowledge to create high-quality designs that effectively communicate your message and achieve your goals.

With your growing brand, you wouldn’t want to risk looking like a newbie.
