Client story
When doing it yourselfstarts showing
But when it came to design, too much of the work was staying inside the business.
There wasn’t a complicated supplier problem to solve or a huge creative department to restructure.
The challenge was simpler: they were doing it themselves.
And they could see the cost of that.
- Learning for business transformation
- Brand people now recognise
- Design was staying in-house
One of The Learning Company and Deer Designer’s favourite print projects to date.
Deer are the best decision we have made in terms of outsourced services this year.

How it went
From another job on the list
to work the market notices
The challenge
Handling design internally was putting pressure on two things: time and quality.
With no dedicated design resource behind the work, the team had to find time for creative production alongside everything else it was already responsible for.
And even when the work got done, the visual output wasn’t always as consistent or polished as the business wanted.
For a company whose materials need to represent its expertise in front of clients and prospects, that was becoming harder to ignore.

Why Deer Designer
The Learning Company found Deer Designer through an online search.
The appeal was a combination of price, turnaround time and avoiding the recruitment process altogether.
Instead of hiring someone internally, the team gained a design resource it could use across custom illustrations, presentations and print materials.
The difference became noticeable quickly.

From getting designs done to building the brand
For Damian, the most valuable part of the service is straightforward: creative quality.
The Learning Company didn’t just want someone to take design work off its plate. It wanted the work coming back to be better than what the team could reasonably produce itself.
That changed the role design could play inside the business.
Rather than being another task competing for the team’s time, it became something the company could use more confidently in client-facing situations.

The impact
The immediate gains have been time savings, cost savings and more consistent output.
But Damian has also seen signs of the brand becoming more noticeable externally.
At one conference, he specifically saw stronger brand recognition around The Learning Company’s presence.
There isn’t a percentage or revenue figure attached to that result. There doesn’t need to be one to make the shift visible: the business went from struggling to produce consistent design internally to putting work into the market that people recognised.

When the client’snew brand landed
One client-facing project gave Damian another proof point. The Learning Company needed to create a new brand for a client. Deer Designer developed the creative work. The client’s response was simple: they loved it.
It’s the kind of outcome that makes outsourced design useful beyond saving time. The Learning Company can bring stronger creative work into what it delivers to its own clients without having to build that capability internally first.
Deer have been a revelation, advancing our brand an incredible way at low cost.
