How to choose the best fonts for your website

We all know someone who has terrible handwriting, don’t we? Our doctors, most probably.

My friend once sent me a photo of her doctor’s prescription and she asked me to decipher the handwriting because I was “good in English”. I know how to read English, not hieroglyphs, c’mon!

Check out the photo below. If you can figure it out, you’re probably a nurse or a pharmacist. 👩‍⚕️

Needless to say, the only thing I got from it was “Sept 5” 😜

While you want your website to have the same authority as a doctor’s, having poor font selection is a no-no. Your website is not a prescription that needs translation. Make it easy for your potential customers. Do not make them think.

Website visitors need clear information on how to get around your website. What makes the website experience more enjoyable is the clarity of the visuals, and that includes the legibility of the font.

While developing material for your website, be sure to choose the best typography. Typography gives your digital content an appealing look while also communicating the general feeling of your website. This ensures a positive customer experience.

Typography is essential for layout. Learning the foundations of style and how to select the ideal typeface combinations will significantly enhance your designs.

Here are some helpful tips in choosing the best font for your website:

Focus on your brand

The typeface you choose should reflect the personality and essence of your business.

Get the font style customized to the nature of your brand. Words are not enough to convey an idea, the style must reinforce it. See how the meaning of the word “clothes” changes when the font is different.

Begin with ideas

Research and inspiration are critical components of the creative process. Try looking for design ideas on several websites. You may look for design inspiration on our website, Tumblr or Pinterest to use as a guide in developing your own typeface.

Know the mood

Every font, like every content, has a vibe.

The ambiance can be professional or casual, lighthearted or solemn, modern or traditional, or something else. You must examine the project’s intended atmosphere and how the fonts will support or contrast with that mood.

Consider the primary font

The primary font will most certainly be utilized in the header or banner when it comes to web layout.

It’s designed to be a focal point, shine out, and impact the overall atmosphere of your layout. Determining the primary font will assist you in selecting the others.

Strive to be legible

It’s apparent that a font should be clean and legible instead of entirely illegible. Visitors will disregard your layout if they have to take extra effort to read what you’ve published.

Remember: Your website is not a medical prescription.

It’s also critical to select a font that functions well in various sizes and weights to ensure readability at all sizes.

Whoops! Only 2–3 fonts

It’s tempting to try and cram all the font options. The basic rule is to limit a design to 2–3 distinct fonts. Obviously, this may vary based on what you’re creating, but it’s a fair rule of thumb.
