My siblings summoned me to the front yard one summer weekend. I stormed out of the house, complaining that it was too hot to be outside and that they should come in instead.

“Look! “We’re frying an egg!” my sister shouted back proudly, pointing to the pavement.

I stood there in awe, half wondering if the egg was safe to eat.

That day happened to be Sidewalk Egg Frying Day, so they used that as an excuse to try an experiment. It took so long for it to cook that we eventually gave up and went back inside.

That quirky day also happens to be July 4th, American Independence Day.

There are numerous international, official, and fun events where you can market your services and, yes, try new things, as we did.

Many businesses hold special sales or promotions for the Fourth of July. Why? Because it is effective! Even if you provide a service, you can take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate while marketing.

Here are some ideas for making a big impact with a promotion:

Send out free swag

Clients adore freebies; who doesn’t? Send out special 4th of July swag or gifts to solicit their business. If your target market has physical stores, the holiday is an excellent opportunity to visit and make yourself (and your brand) visible.

Distribute free patriotic swag such as temporary tattoos, mouse pads, or T-shirts with a unique design that incorporates your brand. 

If no local events are scheduled, you can give away free swag to clients who subscribe to your newsletter or service through your website.

Offer 40% off for the 4th of July

On July 4th, a simple play is to offer a customer 40% off their purchase. Customers will be more likely to visit your landing page and make a purchase as a result of this.

Run a buy 3 get 1 free special

Buy 3 + 1 is 4th of July!

This is a good special to run if you offer monthly subscriptions or retainers and want to encourage people to buy more. Customers who pay for three consecutive months of subscription can get a free month or less.

If you’re feeling generous, you could have three people share the subscription and the fourth user be free. They can also refer their friends to benefit from your offer. Remember to publicize this in the weeks leading up to July.
