Why creativity and flexibility are essential in design
So, at my old job, I worked at a production company where we had to plan an entire episode of a TV show, only to end up throwing away half of the script. Our final product was always quite different from what we had planned.
We used to joke around that the only reason we went to the planning sessions was for the free pizza 🍕
You can imagine how frustrating it was. It’s tough when you have all these ideas for a new episode and then things don’t go as planned.
I used to make backup plans in case anything unexpected came up, like the host not wanting to work with me, or bad weather… Annoying!
During one of our after-work dinners, we discussed how much we enjoyed working with Jay (not his real name) despite the stress of TV production work.
He was a creative cameraman who always paid attention to the purpose of the shoot. He made sure to understand the episode’s theme and what we were trying to achieve with it.
Having Jay around made work fun. If a particular part of the shoot couldn’t be completed, he was flexible and worked with the team to come up with alternative ways to reach the goal.
With his creativity and flexibility as a cameraman, it was really cool to find new ways to show what the writer had in mind.
He moved up to director in just a few months.
Creativity and flexibility are necessary soft skills
Let’s talk about creativity and flexibility as essential soft skills for designers. They are like the salt and pepper of the design industry. Without them, it’s difficult to create something unique, functional, and eye-catching.
When it comes to creativity, it’s like having a superpower that helps designers turn a blank canvas into something beautiful and functional.
A creative designer will approach your project with fresh eyes and an open mind, always looking for new and interesting ways to solve problems and meet your needs, making you stand out from the crowd.
Flexibility is also important because changes and problems that come up out of the blue can happen during the design process.
A designer who is flexible can adjust to new situations, make changes to designs when necessary, and still meet tight deadlines and stay within a tight budget.
Reasons why creativity and flexibility are essential
Now, let’s dive into the reasons why creativity and flexibility are essential for designers.
The goal behind design is problem-solving. Whether you need a new website, a logo, or a product package, you’re looking for a solution to a specific problem.
A creative designer can provide unique, innovative custom-made solutions.
Additionally, design is all about communication, and a creative designer can create a design that effectively conveys your message, while a flexible designer can adjust designs based on your feedback.
Last but not least, design is about standing out in a crowded marketplace, and a creative designer can create a design that captures people’s attention and makes them remember you.
A flexible designer can also make changes to the design to make it stand out from the rest.
Look no further, a design team has these and more
If you’re looking for design work that is fast, value for money, and effective, make sure you find a design team that is both creative and flexible.
You want a team that will approach your project with enthusiasm and fresh ideas, and who will be able to adapt to any unexpected challenges that come up along the way.
At the end of the day, design is about finding the perfect balance between form and function. You want a design that looks great and works even better.
With a creative and flexible design team by your side, you can be confident that you’ll get exactly that.
